About Jorge P.
Jorge P. Newbery is an entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of American Homeowner Preservation, a socially responsible enterprise that purchases nonperforming mortgages from banks at a discount and shares those discounts with families to help them settle their mortgages and stay in their homes.
Between 1992 and 2005, he built a portfolio of roughly 4,000 apartments across the United States, turning around some of the countryโs most troubled housing complexes. A natural disaster then triggered a financial collapse that left him more than $26 million in debt. Rather than file for bankruptcy, he developed strategies to gain leverage over creditors and settle his debts for a fraction of what was owed.
He is the author of Burn Zones, Debt Cleanse, and Stories of the Indebted, in which he shares the tools and techniques he used to overcome overwhelming debt and to help others do the same.
