Paul Hobby is a keen observer of conflict, having seen it in many forms as a prosecutor, a candidate, a dealmaker and community leader. His diagnosis is that the middle ground has lost its agency, the honored franchise that was once the golden mean has been abandoned by the dissonance of extremism.
