Ian Hart’s Healing Hacks Earned a Wim Hof Foreword and Still Reaches Readers Worldwide
A Scribe Media author success story
“Writing your first book is like the tuition to get to the next level mentally, to understand things in that field at another level, at a higher level.”
Ian Hart · Author of Healing Hacks
Ian Hart is a fitness and wellness professional who nearly died from a mystery illness, rebuilt his health naturally, and turned that system into Healing Hacks: Bring Your Body Back to Nature. Wim Hof wrote the foreword after hearing his story, and six years after launch readers around the world still reach out after following the book’s program.
From the Brink of Death to a Healing System
In 2009, Ian Hart got seriously ill. He had spent about two decades as a health and fitness professional, but no healthcare provider could tell him what was wrong, and some of their interventions made it worse. He ended up near death in the hospital with twisted intestines, then set out to heal himself naturally through research, mindset, breathwork, and nutrition.
As he recovered, he started sharing what he had learned, and people leaned in. He told the story so many times that he hit a wall.
“I don’t want to tell this story anymore.”
— Ian Hart, Author of Healing Hacks
A book was the way to tell it once and reach far more people than he ever could one conversation at a time.
Why He Chose to Finish It With Scribe
Ian knew the hard part of a book is finishing it. By his own description he is a “quick start” who loves beginning things but struggles to complete them, and he had watched plenty of people say they would write a book and never get it done.
“Scribe was perfect for holding my hand and making sure that I got to the finish line so that it could be published.”
— Ian Hart
Left to his own instincts, Ian writes in bullet points and races to the crux. Working with Scribe pushed him the other way, drawing out the full story instead of the summary.
“Working with Scribe helped me kind of expand on my story and tell a narrative.”
— Ian Hart
His verdict on the decision was blunt.
“I probably would have never got it done if I didn’t hire [Scribe]. And so I would definitely recommend it.”
— Ian Hart, Author of Healing Hacks
Wim Hof and a Launch From the Jungle
Ian had trained as a Wim Hof Method instructor, traveling to a retreat in Spain and a master’s certification in Poland, where each participant shared why the work had changed their life. Wim Hof heard Ian’s story and, when Ian asked him to write the foreword, agreed on the spot.
“He did it that night and that was it. It was done the next day.”
— Ian Hart, on Wim Hof writing the foreword
The launch matched the book. Ian took one of the last flights into Costa Rica before the pandemic lockdown and released Healing Hacks from the middle of the jungle, doing his interviews from an Airbnb after the hotels closed. The subtitle is Bring Your Body Back to Nature, and he realized he was living it.
“I realized that I was doing what was in my book even though I didn’t mean to do it that way.”
— Ian Hart
Six Years of Readers Getting Their Lives Back
Ian specializes in back pain relief, and it runs through the book: a program for spinal relief and help for people with herniated discs, sciatica, and bulging discs. Some readers arrive barely able to move.
“We’ve had people that can’t even walk. Their spine is so bad. And then they open up the book, they follow some of the steps in the program and their life is getting back to normal.”
— Ian Hart, Author of Healing Hacks
Six years after launch, the messages still come in from readers around the world who have more freedom, more energy, and can get back to the hobbies and the people they had set aside, like picking up their grandchildren again.
What He’d Tell a First-Time Author
Ian hears the pitch every aspiring author hears now: why spend nine to fifteen months on a book when AI can produce one in weeks? His answer is that the speed misses the point of what a book actually carries.
“You’re putting a piece of your spirit and your soul into this book and then that’s transferred to other people.”
— Ian Hart
Writing the book also changed him. He understands his own field more deeply now than he did before he had to put all of it on the page.
“I learned way more after writing this book. It took me to the next level.”
— Ian Hart, Author of Healing Hacks
